Self-regulation is an important skill in many domains of life. For example, to fight addiction, to remediate weight problems, in athletic performance, and to promote academic achievements. Moreover, students need to be equipped to regulate their own learning and development throughout their lives. To self-regulate their learning students need to be able to accurately keep track of their own learning process (i.e., monitoring) and use that information to regulate their learning process (e.g., choose the next task). The Ace Your Selfstudy app provides flexible and personal support for students who need support while learning. The app follows study activities, provides information about study tasks and strategies, monitors progress and provides an overview about used strategies, thus helping the user to understand different strategies. By keeping track of their own learning process and using the information provided by the app students will enhance their self regulation skills. By using the app users are also contributing to research on the effects of the app which supports students’ self-regulation activities while studying, on students’ learning experience (motivation, cognitive load, and satisfaction) and learning outcomes. In addition, the effect of different types of prompts (planning or reflection prompts) delivered via the Study app will be investigated.
