Auguste Edouart was a 19th-century French artist, primarily known for his silhouette work. He was born on April 19, 1789, in Dunkirk, France, and passed away on April 3, 1861, in Jersey, a British island.
Edouart is famous for his technique of silhouette cutting, which he perfected and popularized. He created portraits of numerous prominent figures of his time, including members of the British royal family, political figures, artists, writers, and high-society members.
His technique involved cutting out the silhouettes of individuals using special scissors and mounting them on colored background paper. His silhouettes were renowned for their precision and detail, setting them apart from simpler silhouettes.
