Hindi is the national language of India. It is studied, taught, spoken and understood widely throughout the sub-continent, as mother tongue or as a second or a third language. It is the official language of India along with English. It is usually written in Devanagari script and uses Sanskrit, the ancient language of India as the resource language. Hindi draws much of its vocabulary from Sanskrit.
