In the best of times, Isle Royale National Park and Keweenaw National Historical Park are a challenge to visit due to their remote locations and snowy winters. And currently, both parks are closed to visitors due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to share a glimpse into these fascinating national parks, the Isle Royale & Keweenaw Parks Association, in partnership with Keweenaw National Historical Park, Isle Royale National Park, and TimeLooper, Inc. has created a virtual tour for you. Walk across the virtual landscape to 12 highlighted locations within the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan and Isle Royale to learn about the shared geoheritage of this region. From a fiery beginning two billion years ago, this landscape has changed over time, ultimately providing opportunities for humans to make discoveries, risk their lives, seek prosperity, and find their sense of place.
At each of the 12 locations on the map, you’ll immerse yourself in the story being shared, either through a video or a panoramic image and narration.
