George Story, a highly experienced Australian psychologist who works with cognitively challenged children, believes that learning a skill like reading, is an issue of memory. It’s only a matter of logic then that repetition is essential to developing any skill. In early years learning the time dedicated to developing any particular skill in the school environment, whether that be a mainstream or specialist environment, is ultimately limited. Teachers and consequently parents are often led to believe that some children are incapable of learning particular subjects simply because they haven’t had sufficient opportunity.
