The Gargantua
iPhone / Education
Hold a black hole on your wrist.
The Gargantua renders a Schwarzschild black hole in real time, right on your Apple Watch. This isn't a looping video — every frame is computed on-device by ray-marching light through curved spacetime. Watch photons bend around the event horizon, swirl through a glowing accretion disk, and reveal the underside of the disk warped over the top — the same gravitational lensing that made the black hole in Interstellar so unforgettable.
There's no goal. No score. Just the quiet, hypnotic physics of light falling into the dark.
**Actually computed, not faked**
Each pixel traces a light ray through the gravitational field of the black hole. The famous Einstein ring, the photon sphere, and the lensed disk above and below the shadow all emerge naturally from the simulation — not from a pre-rendered texture.
**Relativistic accretion disk**
The glowing disk of infalling matter is shaded with real relativistic effects: Doppler beaming brightens the side spinning toward you, gravitational redshift dims light climbing out of the well, and blackbody color shifts from white-hot to deep orange across the disk.
**How to experience it**
· Swipe to orbit the black hole and view the lensing from any angle
· Press and hold to dive in — fall toward the event horizon for a cinematic plunge
· Double-tap to reset the camera to its starting view
**No distractions, ever**
· No notifications. No ads. No account.
· Runs entirely on-device — offline, always.
· Subtle haptic feedback as you interact.
