The research project "Written in the Landscape. Places, Traces, Memories of the First World War in the Sesto Dolomites", funded by "Research Südtirol/Alto Adige 2019", was conducted by the Platform for Cultural Heritage and Cultural Production of the Faculty of Design and Arts, Free University of Bolzano as well as by an interdisciplinary team. The project investigated with a multidisciplinary approach the traces that the tragic events of the First World War have left in the natural and human landscape of the Three Peaks area in the Sesto Dolomites, promoting awareness of the conflictual and often ideologized heritage inscribed in this territory, beyond regional and national borders.
The dissemination of the research results included participatory events, visits and guided tours, an international conference (Sesto/Sexten, September 2022), an exhibition (Sesto/Sexten, July-September 2022), and a dedicated website. These experiences come together in the app "Written in the Landscape", designed to accompany visitors to the places of research, offering everyone the opportunity to take a new, critical look at the dissonant and conflictual heritage of this war landscape.
