When traveling abroad or in remote areas, there are a variety of factors that can make contacting emergency services directly over the local emergency phone number (112 in Europe) very difficult:
Providing Locations
For instance, were you to find yourself injured in a forest, consider the difficulty you would have explaining your precise location to the emergency hotline operator. If you had the suitable cellphone, however, you could provide the GPS coordinates of your exact position.
Language Barriers
Imagine you are traveling in southern Italy and speak only a few words of Italian. In an emergency, it would be very challenging to describe to the local emergency hotline operator where you are and what has happened.
The Solution
With the SOS-Call.eu application, you can send your current location data to our control center in Germany by pushing the SOS-Call button. Information about the emergency, including a map with your exact position, is immediately forwarded to our partner control center abroad. Our partners dispatch the local emergency services in the local language and help is on the way. In order to cover the cost of this service, you should have medical travel insurance.
The app covers duty of care for travelers, as information and travel alerts from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs are included and instant help can be activated on a worldwide basis.
