Darker Tides: NZ Tide Times
iPhone / Météo
6am. Robe on, towel over your shoulder, ready for the cold plunge that sets up your whole day. One thing can wreck it: you get down there and the water is halfway out across the flats.
Darker Tides tells you before you leave the house. The next high or low, right on your home and lock screen, updating itself, no signal needed.
Here's the thing. At the bottom of the low it is more sand and rock than sea, nothing to actually get under. A proper plunge needs the water in. And an outgoing tide is the one that drags you further out than you planned. Show up at the wrong time and it is just you, standing on wet sand, the whole morning ruined. Worse is a tide app that wants your email, needs a signal you do not have, and hides the one number you came for behind three ads.
Darker Tides does one thing, properly: New Zealand's tides, at a glance, no faff. Check the widget for the next tide. Open the app for the full read, a clean 3-day tide curve and a 7-day timetable for any of 88 spots around Aotearoa.
ACTUALLY LOOKS GOOD ON YOUR HOME SCREEN
• The next tide's time and height, with the live sea level riding the curve
• Light, dark, tinted, and the new clear look, so it fits whatever your setup is
• A Lock Screen widget too: next tide right beside the clock
PRIVATE IN A WAY THAT ACTUALLY MEANS SOMETHING
• No account. No ads. No analytics.
• It cannot track you. It has no internet connection at all.
• App Privacy label: Data Not Collected. Nothing to collect, nothing to leak, nothing to sell.
MADE FOR NEW ZEALAND, NOT COPY-PASTED
• 88 ports and coastal spots, Northland to Bluff
• Chatham Islands in correct Chatham time (+45 minutes), not guessed from the mainland
• Official LINZ predictions, bundled through 2029 and refreshed every year
• Daylight saving done right, down to the weird 23 and 25-hour changeover days
ALSO IN THE APP
• Today's tides in plain English: what the water is doing, and when it turns
• Scrollable 3-day curve and a full 7-day high and low timetable
• Heights in meters or feet
• Full Dynamic Type and VoiceOver support
NOT FOR EVERYONE
Want an app with an account, hourly notifications, and a monthly subscription? This is not it. Darker Tides is small on purpose. Buy it once, add the widget, forget it exists until the moment you need it.

Quoi de neuf dans la dernière version ?
Small update, cleaner details.
The clock now just follows your phone. Set iOS to 12 or 24-hour and the app and widgets match it, no separate switch to keep in sync. One less setting to think about. You are welcome.
Your Lock Screen widget reads faster. The next tide shows as an up or down arrow with an H or L, so high vs low lands in half a second, and the AM/PM sits neatly under the time.
Today's Tides on the Home Screen picked up the same arrow and High or Low mark, so it all matches.
