Jazz & Pop Harmony /w Analysis
iOS Universel / Musique
This app aims to provide a comprehensive overview of jazz, rock and pop harmony.
It is using terminology and notation conventions commonly associated with Berklee College of Music.
This app draws on 25 years of teaching experience in harmony at higher education institutions.
The app is divided into two parts:
1) HARMONY
The first part of the app features detailed lessons on harmony with a focus on jazz and pop.
Topics covered include: chords, chord symbols, optional tones, intermediate and substitute dominants, related IIs, and scale theory.
Numerous musical examples aid in understanding.
Furthermore, “negative harmony” according to Ernst Levy and Steve Coleman and “non-functional harmony” are also covered.
2) HARMONIC ANALYSIS
The second part of the app focuses on analyzing pieces from various genres. The analytical process is demonstrated and clearly explained.
Note:
Currently, the app’s design is primarily optimized for the iPhone.
It works seamlessly on the iPad—the layout is gradually being adapted for the iPad as well,
so that an optimal balance of visuals and text is achieved there as well.
