StandMetrics is a timber cruise companion built for foresters, loggers, and woodland owners who need reliable volume and value estimates in the field. Enter each tree's species, DBH, and height, and the app runs a taper-based segmentation model to estimate board feet, board count, weight, and dollar value -- tree by tree, stand by stand.

The app ships with 42 common North American species, each with density data and default stumpage pricing you can customize to match your local market. Three industry-standard log scaling rules are supported -- Doyle, Scribner, and International 1/4" -- so your estimates align with however your mill or buyer scales.

Timber Estimation

- Taper model segments each stem from stump to the merchantable top, applying inside-bark factors and per-log board-foot rules
- Three estimate modes -- Conservative, Expected, and Optimistic -- apply different defect/net factors so you can bracket your yield
- Configurable log length (8 to 20 ft), trim allowance, and minimum small-end diameter let you match real mill specs
- Standalone calculator page lets you estimate a single tree without adding it to a stand, with a formula reference sidebar

Stand Management

- Create named stands for each woodlot, block, or tract
- Each stand holds its own trees, waypoints, and boundary polygons
- Attach a city, state, and GPS coordinates to any stand; the app can auto-locate you or geocode a city name
- Dashboard shows global totals -- stand count, tree count, total board feet, and estimated value -- plus your three most recent stands at a glance

Mapping

- Interactive Leaflet map on every stand detail page, powered by OpenStreetMap tiles
- Trees with coordinates appear as markers on the map with species, DBH, and height popups
- Drop waypoints and tag them as Landing, Gate, Hazard, Access, or Other, each color-coded
- Draw boundary polygons directly on the map (tap vertices, undo, save) with custom names and colors
- Open the map on Wi-Fi first and tiles cache for offline field use

Import and Export

- Export your full dataset as Excel (.xlsx), JSON backup, CSV, GeoJSON, KML, or GPX
- Excel export includes separate sheets for Stands, Trees (with computed estimates), Waypoints, Boundaries, and Prices
- GeoJSON and KML exports include tree and waypoint points plus boundary polygons -- ready for QGIS, Google Earth, or any GIS tool
- GPX export works with handheld GPS units and navigation apps
- Import from Excel or JSON to restore a backup, or import a prices CSV to update stumpage rates across all species

Customization

- Set stumpage prices per species in $/MBF and reset to defaults anytime
- Toggle which summary chips appear on stand headers: Trees, Board Feet, Boards, Weight, or Value
- Light and dark themes with automatic detection of your system preference
- Imperial or metric units throughout -- inputs, displays, and settings all switch together
