Gridsend is an offline AI assistant built for when the grid goes dark.
Everything runs on your phone after initial setup. No ongoing internet, no cell signal, no servers. Once setup finishes, you can put your phone in airplane mode and Gridsend still answers.
Two modes share the same screen.
SURVIVAL DATA is a curated reference library. Hundreds of preparedness titles, books, military manuals, field references, and emergency documents, indexed for instant retrieval. Ask any question and Gridsend pulls the relevant passages and writes you a clear answer. When the archive has a confident match, the source documents appear underneath so you can verify or dig deeper. If the archive doesn't have a confident match, Gridsend tells you that instead of making something up. Think NotebookLM, but offline. Minimal Hallucinations.
OPEN CHAT is the general assistant. Same on device model, no retrieval. Ask the questions you'd ask your favorite AI, offline. Bring a photo for it to describe, ask it to think through a scenario, get help planning a route or sorting a gear list. It answers in plain language and stays focused on practical, real world help.
An engineering first.
Gridsend is the first preparedness app on the App Store to run Google's Gemma 4 natively on Apple Silicon through Swift and Metal. No other shipping iOS app runs Gemma 4 below 4 GB of RAM. Gridsend runs on phones with as little as 3 GB, below the model's recommended floor, without giving up speed or clarity. We chose Gemma 4 because it is American and the most impressive offline model we have seen so far. No Chinese origin AI, by design. We are American built, we run an American model, and we run it on hardware others said couldn't handle it. The app picks the right variant for your device on install. Currently the E2B variant for iPhone 16 and under, and the larger E4B variant for iPhone 17 and forward.
Inside Gridsend.
Fully offline after first setup. The app installs from the App Store. On first launch, the survival library and the on device language model finish setting up over WiFi. Plan on a few gigabytes of free space. From that point on Gridsend works in airplane mode, off grid, anywhere. Your questions, chats, photos, audio, and answers never leave your phone.
Voice. Ask out loud. Your phone listens and answers. Audio is processed on device by the same model that handles text and photos.
Vision. Attach a photo from your library or take a picture with the camera. Get a thorough description of what you're looking at, useful for gear inventory, terrain readout, plant context, and field notes.
No accounts. No subscriptions. No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reports, no tracking. One purchase, yours forever.
Citations. Matched Survival Data answers come with the source documents listed underneath, so you can verify or dig deeper.
