OceanPact offers an oil spill calculation tool for assessing the approximate volume of an observed oil slick on the surface of the water.
This application was designed based on NOAA´s Open Water Identification Job Aid (for aerial observation), version 2, of July 2012. Oil thickness estimates from aircraft observations have high uncertainty.
