Octavo: A Hardcover client

Octavo is an iPhone companion to hardcover.app. It is built around the handful of things a reader does every day — add a book, check on what's being read now, log progress, finish and rate — and deliberately nothing more.
Reach for Octavo when you have a book in hand. A few seconds in bed to log a chapter. A glance while walking to remember where you left off. A minute at a coffee shop to add a book someone just recommended. The app opens, lets you do the one thing, and gets out of the way.
What you can do
• Keep track of what you are currently reading. Your open books are one tap away. Open a cover to nudge your progress forward by pages or percent.
• Finish a book and rate it. A single sheet to set the date you finished, pick a half-star rating, and mark it done.
• Find your next book. Search Hardcover's catalog by title, author, or ISBN and add the result to Want to Read or start reading it right away.
• Browse what you have already read. Your Want, Read, and Did Not Finish shelves are there when you need them, with local search by title or author.
• See your yearly reading goal at a glance. If you have a books-per-year goal set on Hardcover, Octavo shows your progress above the tab bar on the Reading tab.
What Octavo is not
Octavo is not a rewrite of Hardcover. The rest of the service stays on the web, where it belongs: the social feed, reviews, comment threads, list curation, reading-pace charts, streaks and badges. If you want any of those, hardcover.app is one tap away from the Settings screen. Octavo is for the day-to-day act of reading — opening a book, closing it, and noting you did.
Privacy
Sign in once with a personal API token from Account Settings → Hardcover API on hardcover.app. The token stays on your device and is only sent to Hardcover's API. Octavo has no analytics, no trackers, and no accounts other than your existing Hardcover one. Your library and reading history live on Hardcover's servers; Octavo is a view into them.
