Grammar Index-Key Stage 2 & 3
iOS Universel / Education
The Grammar Index — Key Stage 2 & 3 is a child-friendly English grammar reference designed for pupils aged 7-13, parents helping with homework, teachers building lessons, and ESL/EFL learners studying English overseas.
WHAT'S INSIDE
Every grammar term schools are expected to teach at Key Stages 2 and 3, organised into seven categories you can browse or search:
• Parts of speech — nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, articles, conjunctions, prepositions, determiners, interjections, and modal verbs.
• Verbal forms — gerunds, infinitives, participles, the perfect and progressive aspects, conditionals, the subjunctive, and tenses.
• Sentence structure — main clauses, subordinate (dependent) clauses, relative (adjective) clauses, adverbial clauses, noun clauses, noun phrases, preposition phrases, subjects, objects, and modifiers.
• Syntax rules — subject-verb agreement, active and passive voice, Standard English, cohesion, cohesive devices, and register.
• Mechanics — capital letters, apostrophes, prefixes, suffixes, root words, morphology, word families, word class, compounds, inflection, etymology, synonyms, antonyms, and homophones.
• Punctuation — full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks, speech marks, semicolons, colons, hyphens, dashes, brackets, and ellipses.
• Phonics — phonemes, graphemes, the grapheme-phoneme correspondence, consonants, vowels, syllables, digraphs, trigraphs, split digraphs, the schwa, stress, unstressed syllables, and Received Pronunciation.
ALIGNED WITH THE UK NATIONAL CURRICULUM
The content covers every grammar term in the DfE glossary (DFE-00184-2013) for the English programme of study, so it works for SATs revision, KS3 SPaG (spelling, punctuation, and grammar), and beyond.
THE TEACHING STYLE
Every topic card opens to show:
• A plain-English definition written for ages 7-13
• Three "right" examples with the key word underlined
• One "wrong" example with a friendly explanation of the mistake
• A small grammar joke at the bottom
Examples use a recurring fictional cast (Sam, Emma, Mr Patel, Aunt Mavis, Harry, Lily, Maya, Tom, and Biscuit the hamster) — no real people, brands, or content unsuitable for a primary or secondary school audience.
BUILT-IN QUIZ
Tap the quiz button to generate a tailored five-question multiple-choice quiz from the topics you've studied. Questions, answer options, and distractors are randomised on every retake, so pupils can revisit a topic without memorising a fixed pattern.
LICENSING FOR SCHOOLS
The Grammar Index — Key Stage 2 & 3 is free to download and try. Schools, classes, and districts unlock the full catalogue with a Gift / Sponsorship licence — one purchase covers every learner. For licence details, contact us at support@grammarindex.com.
OFFLINE & PRIVACY-FRIENDLY
Once the licence is activated, the app works fully offline. We do not track which topics pupils view, search for, or how they use the app. Usage data stays on the device. Suitable for safeguarding-compliant deployment in UK schools.
