Guess the Modern Firearm
iOS Universel / Jeux
Although firearms have been around since the 10th century, their evolution was substantially accelerated by the start of the First World War. The use of effective bolt-action rifles and machine guns, the adoption of pistols and shotguns for trench combat and the creation of the submachine gun provided valuable tactical lessons. World War II brought important advancements in firearm technology, leading to new concepts, like the self-loading automatic rifle and the anti-tank weapon. During the Cold War, progress in terms of ballistics, materials and production took firearm development to new heights: the assault rifle received a more prominent role, the sniper rifle became more sophisticated, firearm calibres saw an increased level of standardisation and man-portable anti-air systems became available. Since then, firearm technology has continued to evolve at a rapid pace, bringing new ideas in terms of ammunition, operation and performance.
