Krypter is a fast, native macOS app that lets you encrypt and decrypt any file in seconds — no technical knowledge required. Whether you need to protect sensitive documents on your own machine or share encrypted files with others, Krypter has you covered with two distinct protection modes and a clean, intuitive interface.

TWO WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR FILES

Key File Protected
The classic Krypter mode. Encrypt any file and Krypter generates a companion key file (.Key) alongside the encrypted output (.Kry). As long as you keep the key file, you can always decrypt. Perfect for archiving files on your own drives or encrypted backups you control.

Password Protected
Built on AES-256-GCM — one of the strongest encryption standards available — this mode lets you lock a file with a password of your choice. No key file is generated. The encrypted output (.krys) is entirely self-contained, so you can share it with anyone and they only need the password to open it. Key derivation uses PBKDF2 with 200,000 iterations, making brute-force attacks computationally expensive.

SIMPLE BY DESIGN

Drop files directly onto the window or use the Encrypt / Decrypt buttons to open the file picker. Krypter automatically detects whether a file needs to be encrypted or decrypted — if a companion key file is found, it switches to decrypt mode automatically. Accidentally selected the key file instead of the encrypted file? Krypter figures it out and redirects silently.

Process a single file or a whole batch at once. Each file gets its own progress bar, status indicator, and — when complete — a one-click shortcut to reveal it in Finder.

EVERYTHING STAYS ON YOUR MAC

Krypter works entirely offline. Your files never leave your device, never touch a server, and are never uploaded anywhere. Encryption and decryption happen locally, in memory, using Apple's CryptoKit framework for the AES-256 path.
