Internet addiction is a type of behavioral addiction where a person becomes unhealthily dependent on internet usage. Internet addiction is widely recognized in Asian countries such as South Korea, but is recently becoming more prominent in Western countries as well.
Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) AKA Problematic Internet Use AKA Pathological Internet Use is generally defined as problematic, compulsive use of the internet, that results in significant impairment in an individual's function in various life domains over a prolonged period of time.
Internet addiction can cause disruptions in mental health, social life, and physical health. Internet addiction can be effectively treated through psychotherapy such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or Motivational Interviewing.
