Our App is a closed, participant-only, research study with the intent to gather data for motor neuron degenerative diseases such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson's Disease, and others. For now, the functionality of the application is limited to speech data collection. We will disseminate this app to over 60 clinical sites to collect an initial set of data for analysis on the back-end. Eventually, the functionality of the app will be expanded to include outcome measures that track patient progress; however in order to do this, the app must be disseminated in its current form in order to collect data for algorithm calibration.

Our participants' locations are nationwide (over 60 sites). We have developed the application specifically for the iPad and will purchase 60 iPads to distribute for this study alone. It is our hope to do additional studies in the future with this App.

Distribution of the App, and future updates, becomes non-trivial if we are required to disseminate the app outside of the Apple App Store. Our intent is to make this research study as simple as possible for these participants with these diseases. The research study is partially funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and has the potential to transform the way that outcomes are measured in populations with neurodegenerative disorders.

Initially this App will be used by specific clinics and research institutions to administer tests these tests to patients in a controlled environment. Later, we will release a "home version" to gather data from patients without a clinical visit.
