Squall: Storm Radar
iPhone / Météo
Squall is a radar viewer, not another weather app. It shows the same raw NEXRAD radar data meteorologists use — base reflectivity and velocity — rendered as a high-resolution, high-contrast overlay on a dark map, in near real time, with smooth animation and live warning polygons. The promise is simple: the real radar, fast, beautiful, and readable.
THE REAL RADAR
See actual NEXRAD base reflectivity and Level III velocity, not a smoothed consumer blob. Squall is built for storm chasers, spotters, weather enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to understand what the sky is really doing.
SMOOTH LOOPS
Animate the last several frames with play, pause, and scrub. Watch a cell build, track its motion, and read frame timestamps so you always know how fresh the data is.
LIVE NWS WARNINGS
Tornado, severe thunderstorm, and flash flood warning polygons are overlaid and color-coded by severity. Tap any polygon for the headline, expiration, and official instructions.
RADAR NEAR YOU
Squall finds the nearest radar site to your location and centers the map on you. Pick any site manually, switch products, and the app remembers your preferences.
BUILT FOR CLARITY
A dark-first map style, a perceptually-tuned color table, and sane defaults keep severe weather legible at a glance — without burying the data behind menus.
DATA & ATTRIBUTION
Radar and warning data come from NOAA / the U.S. National Weather Service (public domain). Processed radar tiles are courtesy of the Iowa Environmental Mesonet (Iowa State University). Full attributions are listed in the app.
Squall is for situational awareness and is not a substitute for official NWS warnings, local emergency alerts, or sirens.
