Fog & Clouds Finder — sunrise scouting for landscape photographers
Fog & Clouds Finder is a focused planning tool for photographers who chase moody fog and dramatic sunrise / sunset skies. It is not a general-purpose weather app — it answers two questions: where will there be fog tomorrow morning? and where will high clouds light up at golden hour?
What it does
• A live map heatmap showing fog likelihood and high-cloud cover across any region, refreshed automatically as you pan and zoom.
• Tap any spot to drop a pin and instantly see sunrise & sunset times for that exact location, plus the forecasted fog and high-cloud percentages at those moments.
• A 72-hour time slider with golden-hour and blue-hour markers so you can scrub straight to the moments worth shooting.
• A country picker with 45+ photography destinations — useful for trip planning.
• Compass direction of sunrise and sunset at every spot, so you know which way to face the tripod.
• All times shown in the local timezone of the place you're scouting.
How it works
Forecasts come from Open-Meteo's free, global weather API. Fog likelihood is a heuristic blend of low-cloud cover, humidity, dewpoint spread, and visibility — the classic ingredients of fog formation. Sunrise, sunset, and azimuth are computed on-device using the standard NOAA solar algorithm.
A note on forecasts
Fog and clouds are notoriously hard to predict, especially beyond 24 hours. Treat the badges as guidance, not certainty — but they're a much better starting point than guessing.
