At Negative Supply, we care a lot about good backlights for camera scanning. That’s why we design, build and and sell our own line of high end light sources. But we know that sometimes you need to view and scan film without an external light source handy. So we’ve used our expertise to make a simple, easy and free backlight app. This app for iPhone and iPad automatically increases the brightness of your display, opens a color-balanced white screen, and prevents the device from going to sleep. This allows anyone to scan film in the field or at home using their device as a backlight. Additionally, with a resizing tool, you can mask the illuminated area to only shine directly under negatives.

The Negative Supply App provides useful links to learning resources when using Negative Supply camera scanning tools, as well as a bright backlight to use when digitizing negatives with a digital camera.

Simply place photographic negatives or positives over the device screen with the backlight enabled, and capture an image of the film with your digital camera, then convert with your favorite negative conversion software (we use Film Lab Desktop and Negative Lab Pro)!
