Sobrium
iPhone / Style de vie
Sobrium keeps you in control of your phone when you're not in control of your judgment.
Switch on Alcohol Mode before going out. The apps you'd regret using — Phone, Messages, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, Instagram, Snapchat, anything you choose — get locked at the system level. Tap one and you'll see a shield: take a quick sobriety test to unlock everything for the duration you set.
WHY SOBRIUM
Most "drunk lock" apps are just a button you can disable in two taps. Sobrium uses Apple's Screen Time framework to lock apps the same way parental controls do — strong enough that even drunk-you can't easily bypass it.
FOUR SOBRIETY TESTS
Sobrium picks one at random when you try to unlock:
• Color Match — A reaction-time test based on the Stroop effect. The word "RED" appears in blue ink. Tap the color, not the word. Alcohol slows the brain's conflict-resolution; this is the strongest cognitive signal of impairment.
• Tap Rhythm — Watch a beat for a few seconds, then keep tapping the same tempo without the cue. The cerebellum handles timing precision, and alcohol hits it hard.
• Steady Trace — Drag your finger along a curved path. Measures fine motor control — the same skill roadside tests check.
• Stand Still — Hold the phone against your chest and balance on one leg. The accelerometer measures your sway, just like the police one-leg-stand test.
SET YOUR OWN RULES
• Pick any combination of apps to block
• Three difficulty levels: Easy, Medium, Hard
• Unlock for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 1 hour at a time
• Choose which of the four tests to use, or enable all of them
PRIVACY FIRST
Sobrium runs entirely on your device. No accounts, no cloud, no tracking, no analytics. The app never sees what you're typing or who you're calling — it only knows whether the apps you chose are currently locked.
TWELVE LANGUAGES
Available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, and Finnish.
REQUIREMENTS
• iPhone with iOS 17 or later
• Screen Time / Family Controls permission (granted on first launch)
A NOTE ON RESPONSIBILITY
Sobrium is a behavioral tool, not a medical device. It cannot measure your blood alcohol level — it measures coordination, reaction, and balance, all of which alcohol affects. If you're impaired, please don't drive. Call a cab, call a friend, get home safe.
