ARPolis

ARPolis is an innovative digital city guide for mobile devices (mobile phones, tablets) that utilizes Augmented Reality (AR), Machine Learning and Narrative Guiding technologies, created under the framework «Research - Create - Innovate» of EYDE/ETAK and implemented by Diadrasis.
ARPolis leverages multimedia content and provides it to the user through a "narrative" structure without needing anything beyond a device. In constrast to obsolete presentations of points of interest and their information, it engages emotionally the user in a unique guiding experience or an exciting game.
More specifically:
• The Augmented Reality technology is implemented using the topographical model of a city as provided by online services and with the use of the sensors of a simple device, without the need for any additional equipment or software.
• The machine learning techniques are exploited so that the system is "trained" by its users' behavior, improving and adapting both the tour routes and the type and range of multimedia information provided.
• The narrative guiding structure of the app is based on the ontological structure of its multimedia content.
• It contains a range of routes and stories from Ancient Athens of the Philosophers to Modern Athens of the Occupation and the Civil War, offering the opportunity to each user to follow one that suits his interests, while it can be targeted to younger ages as well.
