ICD-10-CM (Medical Coding) is the official system of assigning codes to diagnoses and procedures associated with hospital utilization in the United States.

CDC released the FY2025 ICD-10-CM with 252 new codes, 36 code deletions, and 13 code revisions making the cut, going into effect on October 1, 2024.

Highlights from the new 2025 ICD-10-CM codes

ICD-10 codes for cancer in remission
The neoplasm chapter contains codes for most benign and all malignant neoplasms. Chapter 2 - Neoplasms leads the way this year in the quantity of new codes, receiving .63 new codes expanding cancer to include ""in remission.""

ICD-10 codes for mental health disorders
In the 2025 update of ICD-10-CM, Chapter 5 – Mental and Behavioral Disorders adds type and severity to eating disorders and 2 new codes for mental and behavioral conditions in adults.
